🐾 About Ruffn Treatz

Hi! We’re Lorne and Tara, located in the northern suburbs of Atlanta. Ruffn Treatz began in October 2024 out of a simple need — to create tasty, healthy, ethically explained, and affordable dog treats for our own dogs, and to share that same quality with others.

What started in our kitchen quickly grew into a local favorite at farmers markets and festivals. The response was overwhelming, and thanks to the encouragement and support from our community, we expanded online so more dogs could enjoy our treats.

🦌 Why Venison?

We’re lifelong dog lovers and have had family pets our entire lives. Between the two of us, we’ve spent countless hours researching dog nutrition, ingredients, and food quality. In fact, one of us even wrote a college persuasive paper comparing home-prepared meals versus commercial pet food.

Through that research, we learned just how many unnecessary fillers, preservatives, and chemicals exist in mass-produced dog treats. While shopping around Georgia, we also noticed very few venison-based options — despite venison being a high-protein, low-fat, and hypoallergenic protein, especially beneficial for dogs with sensitivities.

Venison has been a game changer for our dogs, particularly our pugs and French bulldogs. During hunting season, it’s also readily available through local deer processors. While we do not hunt the deer ourselves, we ethically source only consumable animal parts that would otherwise go to waste. This helps reduce landfill impact while supporting small, local processing businesses.

❤️ Our Inspiration: The Pack

Ruffn Treatz would never exist without our dogs. Each one has shaped our journey and inspired the treats we make today.

Zoe (crossed the rainbow bridge)
A blind and deaf pug with severe dietary restrictions who still loved food and treats. She lit up at kitchen smells. Venison gave her a tasty, low-fat option we felt confident feeding her — with no fillers or harmful ingredients.
Favorite treat: Deer skin rolls

Rocky
Our senior mini pin mix who once lost his desire to eat. After introducing fresh venison meals and treats, his appetite returned, his coat softened, and he jumps like a puppy again at mealtime.
Favorite treat: Deer ears

Girly Pop
A sick, malnourished foster pittie from an Atlanta shelter who learned manners and tricks using our original Buck Biscuits training treats. Today, she’s healthy, happy, and thriving in her forever home.
Favorite treat: Buck Biscuits

Arya
A feisty young French bulldog found abandoned at a local shelter. She went through a phase of refusing anything that wasn’t freshly prepared, which led us to commit to making fresh meals daily for all our dogs.
Favorite treat: Freeze-dried chicken feet & deer skin twists

Dexter
A misunderstood Staffordshire bulldog mix we fostered who transformed from stubborn and unresponsive to eager and engaged once treats entered the picture. He inspired our first fruit-based treats.
Favorite treat: Freeze-dried blueberry treats

Mazikeen (Miss Maze)
A hyper, sweet French bulldog who will only drop her ball for food or treats. She was surrendered to the shelter when her puppies didn’t sell and arrived with severe ear and skin infections. Because of her allergies, she requires hypoallergenic food — and venison fits her perfectly.
Favorite treat: All of them!
